Gabby Agbonlahor joined the sun lounger wars on his family holiday – and won.
A number of posts this summer have circulated on social media showing the early risers among Brits who dart to the pool – often before the sun has come up – to nab a prime spot to catch those rays.
The pacey former Premier League striker was in Majorca and showed fellow holidaymakers a turn of pace that often left defenders flailing in his wake.
Discussing the recent trend of Brits abroad fighting for sun loungers from 5:30am, he told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I’ve done it, I done it last week,” he told co-host Alan Brazil.
“I went down early doors, I was down at 7am – two towels down, baseball cap down, sun tan cream and bag down.”
Exasperated, Brazil told him he’d simply move Gabby’s stuff if he saw his stuff taking up a good spot and not being used.
But the Aston Villa legend maintained it is a must when away. “You have to, otherwise you won’t get a seat.
“I’m sorry, I’m guilty. If everyone else is doing it, then I’ll do it.”
Expanding on why he engaged in sunbed warfare, he added: “If you get down there early, you get the sun loungers closer to the pool.
“You dip yourself in the pool then back out, don’t you think Alan?”
Brazil was still having none of it.
So, if you happen to spot the former striker on a summer holiday next year, be sure to get down to the loungers even earlier than planned.
