Oscar Piastri has responded to Eddie Jordan’s talkSPORT claim that he could be Max Verstappen’s next teammate at Red Bull.
The Australian rookie headed into the Belgian Grand Prix in fine form with back-to-back top five finishes, and then recorded his first top three race result in Saturday’s sprint.
The no.81 McLaren led much of the rain-delayed race due to a wise early pitstop decision, but like everyone this season, was unable to keep Verstappen at bay.
Nonetheless, it was another fine performance from the 22-year-old, coming after a Hungarian Grand Prix display that left former team owner and team principal Jordan ‘blown away’.
Jordan even told talkSPORT he could see Piastri driving for Red Bull in the future due to his manager, Mark Webber, having a strong relationship with the team.
Those remarks were put to Piastri at Spa Francorchamps, and he replied: “It’s flattering to have those comments.
“I’m very happy where I am. But yeah, it’s always nice to be talked about in those kinds of ways.”
He continued: “I think my season has been quite good for the most part.
“I think there’s definitely been some mistakes or moments I wish I could have had again.
“But, you know, with hindsight, it’s very easy to say those kinds of things. So, yeah, I’m happy with where I’m at.
“Driving wise, there’s still a lot to improve, a lot to learn.
“I’ve got a very strong teammate [Lando Norris] to learn from, who just by being a benchmark is a big help for me getting back up to speed.
“So, yeah, I’m happy where I am, and that’s it.”
