Errol Spence Jr.’s latest matches and form
Errol Spence Jr enters the fight with a perfect 28-0 record including 22 wins via knockout. Measuring 5-foot-9 1⁄2 and with a 72-inch reach, Spence enters the fight as the current WBC, IBF, and WBA welterweight champion. Despite suffering an awful one-car crash in October 2019 and a retinal detachment in his left eye in August 2021, Spence has proven he remains at the top of his fighting game as he imposes himself with his power and skill. However, these unfortunate circumstances have limited him to just two fights since 2019.
Most recently, he took down Yordenis Ugas by TKO on April 16th. Before this, he had secured three straight victories by decision against Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Mikey Garcia. His most recent knockout occurred on June 16th, 2018 when he knocked out Carlos Ocampo in Round 1 to defend his IBF welterweight title. Spence’s first professional fight occurred on November 9th, 2012 and he has built together an impressive career since this point.
Terence Crawford’s latest matches and form
Terence Crawford enters the match with an unscathed record of 39-0 with only 9 of those fights going the distance. The 5-foot-8 Southpaw has held world titles at both lightweight and junior welterweight, becoming undisputed at 140 pounds. Crawford has fought a total of 224 rounds of professional boxing in his career with each fight lasting an average of 5.7 rounds per fight.
He has fought on a more regular basis than Spence, having five fights over the past 4 years and 10 months, which means he has fought just over once per year of late. Crawford most recently fought on December 10th, 2022 against David Avanesyan which resulted in a 6th-round knockout. Crawford has recorded a KO or TKO in his last 10 fights with the last match that was decided by the judges occurring back on July 23rd, 2016. Before the Avanesyan fight, his most recent victories were over Shawn Porter, Kell Brook, Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Amir Khan, and Jose Benavidez.
Spence vs Crawford betting tips and odds
With both fighters entering with a strong reputation and the ability to back it up, the odds contain plenty of value for bettors with a proper feel of the match. Both fighters possess massive knockout power and each will likely be fighting out of the southpaw stance, although Crawford has also shown the ability to fight out of the orthodox stance, which should make for an interesting bout. Line movement should be expected up until the fight’s start especially since there is not a heavy favorite. Here are a few wagers that hold some intriguing value.
Either Fighter to be Knocked Down: +160 (DraftKings)
Both these fighters enter with legitimate knockout power and will not be afraid to take some big swings. The 77% and 78% knockout rates that both fighters have produced is impressive. While each guy will pose a unique challenge to their opponent and be a step up in competition from past opponents, don’t let this convince you it will be a quiet fight. There will be some time in the opening rounds in which the two figure themselves out, but expect them to unleash once the fight gets going. With both guys possessing knockout power, a knockdown is a possibility for either fighter. Getting this at +160 is great value as it takes just one solid connection for the bet to cash.
Will the Fight Go the Full 12 Rounds? No +138 (BetMGM)
The oddsmakers are indicating their expectation for this one to go the distance. The over/under has been set at 10.5 rounds with this holding roughly -270 odds on the over. While there is good reason to believe both these fighters can take a punch and last themselves, their knockout ability is not being weighed heavily enough. In total, only 15 of the 67 combined fights of the two fighters have gone the full 12 rounds. This is a step up in the quality of opponents that the two are used to, but expect both Spence and Crawford to come in hungry. Neither of these guys should be expected to roll over, but it takes just one punch to end it, and getting positive odds on this is surprising.
Crawford by KO, TKO, or DQ: +290 (BetRivers)
There is a strong case to be made for either fighter, but Crawford will be more hungry for the knockout based on how the two styles will align. Errol Spence Jr has an advantage when it comes to his size and strength. His constant pressure will not make it easy, but Terence Crawford is more well-rounded as a fighter. The ability to switch between orthodox and southpaw can cause some real issues and Crawford does this better than anyone in boxing right now. He is a more advanced defensive fighter and his ability to counter-punch could pave the way for a few significant strikes. The 35-year-old has been the more active fighter of late and still looks at the top of his game. It takes just one opportunity for him to end the fight early and +290 odds are worth jumping on because of this.
